The Process In Brief

  1. Faculty are expected to regularly meet within a program to discuss student performance measurement (assessment). Each faculty should actively engage in
    • maintaining an accurate and comprehensive list of program learning outcomes (PLOs)
    • determining if there are sufficient opportunities for students to achieve mastery of the PLOs
    • set standards/expectations for when a program is fulfilling the PLOs
    • measure data to contribute to understanding if PLOs are being met
    • summarize and analyze data regarding PLOs
    • propose changes to learning and measure results to changes
    • an annual faculty report may be required by a department chair or dean, but is not explicitly part of this assessment process
  2. Chairs (or designees in the program) lead out in data collection plan and assign specific tasks to faculty. All PLOs are expected to be assessed within 5 years but not all PLOs should be assessed every year.
  3. IEAT is available to cheer on and provide clarity throughout the year, contact the chair for an appointment ([email protected]).

Peer Review of Teaching

Each year, faculty review the teaching of their peers as arranged by their department head.  This is the recommended template, and here is a document discussing issues in the peer review of teaching.
