A Year in the Department

There's always something happening in the social work department. Whether the events are department-hosted or student-led, included in course-work or drive by student initiave, our students are immersed in opportunities to make a difference, mark accomplishments, and deepen bonds.

First Day of School -- The energy is high and the department comes to life

MSW Night -- An evening with representatives from graduate schools sharing about MSW programs

Christmas Tree Lighting -  A campus tradition with lights, music, & community

Point-in-Time Count -- An early morning effort to gather data on homelessness in the city

Poverty Simulation -- A hands-on activity where participants experience the daily challenges faced by people with limited income

Take Back the Night -- A campus-wide student-led event focused on survivor stories and ending sexual violence

Lobby Days -- A two-day advocacy trip to Sacramento to lobby lawmakers for legislative action

Induction --  An end-of-the-year formal event inducting students into the program and Phi Alpha Honor Society 

Comprehensive Exams -- A capstone assessment known as "Comps" where seniors demonstrate their body of knowledge

Field Dinner -- A gathering at the end of the year of field work where seniors honor and thank their field instructors

Senior Dinner -- A celebration marking the end of the program for graduating seniors

Graduation -- Three days of events including Consecration, Baccalaureate, and Commencement
