The La Sierra University Wind Ensemble will present its spring show on Sat., May 30 at 8 p.m. in Hole Memorial Auditorium. Admission is free. Featured on the program: “Ghost Train” by Eric Whitacre, an amazing sound depiction of an Old West steam engine roaring down the tracks complete with crazy percussion and sound effects; “Blue Shades” by Frank Ticheli, a crossover work, blues and classical, with colors of Gershwin and Goodman and a cool clarinet solo by Lewes Mowery at the end; “Inchon” by Robert W. Smith, a tribute to veterans of the Korean conflict with simulated helicopters and ordnance, complemented with John Williams's “Hymn for the Fallen” from feature film “Saving Private Ryan,” conducted by Nic Coffey. “Sevens” by Sam Hazo, inspired by Gershwin and Goodwin, with an odd meter romp with pizzazz! Some other goodies to round out the program, including senior recognition.
