Pierce Street Jazz to showcase trumpeter Ron Stout

Through his live and recorded collaborations with various renowned musicians in the jazz community, trumpeter Ron Stout has achieved prestige as one of Los Angeles’ best musicians.

On Wed., May 20, Stout will bring his trumpet to La Sierra University to headline the next concert in the Pierce Street Jazz series. He will be joined by jazz industry musicians Henry "the Skipper" Franklin, bass, Theo Saunders, piano, and Ramon Banda, drums. The concert begins at 7 p.m. and will be held in the Troesh Conference Center of La Sierra’s Zapara School of Business.

The California-born, third generation musician exhibited an interest in music at an early age. By age 15, he became a member of the Musician’s Union. Stout lives in the Los Angeles area teaching at and performing in various gigs. He has performed and recorded around Los Angeles and in Europe upon invitation. He has repeatedly won awards for “Best Soloist” from worldwide jazz festivals.

Throughout his expansive musical career, he has had the opportunity to work with the Righteous Brothers, Bill Medley, Jose Feliciano, Frankie Laine, Lou Rawls, Debbie Reynolds, Gloria Loring, Patti Page, Kay Starr, Maureen McGovern, Sue Raney, Bobby Short, Little Anthony and many more. He has toured and recorded with Horace Silver and other small groups, and has worked with many big bands including the Clayton/Hamilton Jazz Orchestra and Les Brown's Band of Renown.

Stout has recorded numerous albums including with Bill Holman Band’s “Brilliant Corners,” Bob Florence Limited Edition “Serendipity 18,” Phil Norman Tentet’s “Yesterday’s Gardenias,” Matt Zebley’s “Live at Moondog,” Tom Garling’s “Maynard Ferguson Presents…, Vic Lewis’ “West Coast All Stars—Me & You,” Barbara Morrison’s, “I’m Getting ’Long All Right,” and more. He spent three seasons recording with Horace Silver in group jazz work ranging from the classic quintet to the 10-piece brass ensemble.

He currently teaches at Bob Cole Conservatory of Music, Cal State Long Beach, but performs locally with big bands such as Bill Holman, Buddy Childers, Jack Sheldon, and The Bob Florence Limited Edition. He formed his own small jazz group featuring the renowned Jerry Pintor on tenor saxophone.
