Ryan G. Quattlebaum ’08

Mr. Ryan Quattlebaum is the current CFO at Advent Health Wesley Chapel, in Wesley Chapel, Florida. He is responsible for overseeing this 145-bed facility, which has experienced growth every year since opening in 2012.

A 2008 graduate of La Sierra University’s Finance and Accounting program, Ryan has also served as a Finance Intern at Florida Hospital, an auditor at Adventist Health, Senior Auditor at Ernst & Young, a consultant at the Camden Group, Director of Finance at Adventist Health Simi Valley, and most recently as the CFO at Ukiah Valley Medical Center from 2017 to 2020. In 2020, Ryan was a recipient of the Rising Star Award on behalf of the Zapara School of Business at La Sierra.

Ryan has faced a variety of hardships that have ultimately guided him in his career as well as his faith. His first job related to healthcare was at Feather River Hospital in Paradise, California, where he worked in the dish room from 2002 to 2006. Twelve years later, Paradise was the location of a raging wildfire that devoured everything within its path. Like many others with family homes in Paradise, the Quattlebaums lost personal heirlooms, precious keepsakes, and more. This event led him to a new outlook that shaped his worldview. “It was personal for me, and it was tough and it was scary,” Ryan said. “But my family and friends ended up safely on the other side.”

Ryan and his family have faced other life-threatening challenges. Five years ago, the lives of Ryan’s wife and firstborn daughter were at risk when Ryan’s wife was rushed to an emergency surgery, and they welcomed their daughter, Sofia, two months earlier than planned. As a result of the emergency surgery, Ryan’s wife was admitted to the ICU for a week while his daughter was in the NICU. Thankfully, his wife was discharged with a clean bill of health and was able to bring Sofia home with a full recovery. “I thought both my wife and daughter may die, but thankfully they received great healthcare. That made a real impact,” said Ryan. And just this year, within the last few months, Ryan's wife survived a difficult bout of COVID-19, especially frightful as she is pregnant with their second daughter. Thankfully, tests have shown the baby remains unharmed and the couple is eagerly awaiting her birth. These personal experiences have reaffirmed Ryan’s career choice. “We’re always looking to explain ‘the why’. For me, life experiences have made my ‘why’ clear. In healthcare, I get to make a difference in people’s lives every day,” he says. “It’s a calling.”
