La Sierra University to host music, robotics, CSI summer camps

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – This summer, La Sierra University will provide multiple camp experiences for the region’s youth and their varied interests, offering engaging experiences in music, robotics, and forensics.

The Academy of Visual and Performing Arts at La Sierra will hold its summer music programs from June 18-29. Junior Music Camp is designed for children ages 5 to 7 years old and includes junior choir, arts and crafts, junior music theater and other classes. Summer Music Camp is open to campers ages 8 to 11 and includes camp choir, beginning music history and theory and Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” camp project. The Summer Music Academy is open to participants ages 12 to 16 years old and offers chamber music groups, large ensemble classes, an academy choir, elective classes and more. For youth and adults interested in computer coding or robotics, Enoch Hwang, La Sierra University computer science professor will offer Robotics Summer Camp in two, one-week camps. Participants may choose one of the camps to attend. The first camp will run June 18-22 and the second will be held July 9-13. Camp hours are Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. Through building their own robot, participants will develop logical and analytical thinking, and will learn computer coding, electronics and artificial intelligence. Each camp will conclude with a robot competition. The camp is open to anyone ages 9 and up. Tuition is $290 and includes an Arduino microprocessor kit. 

La Sierra’s Criminal Justice department will hold a four-day summer camp for attendees ages 14-18 who are intrigued by crime scene investigation and forensics. From July 23-26, CSI Camp will introduce participants to the skills used in today’s crime fighting and show what it takes to work in the fields of forensics and criminal justice, including how to secure and process a crime scene. Courses will include fingerprinting, shoe impression casting, crime scene documentation, forensics photography, and mock court evidence presentation. CSI Camp will be held from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Ontario Criminal Justice Campus located at 3491 Concours St., Ontario.
