Please pardon our progress as we continue working on this webpage.
Check back often for updates!

We dedicate this page to honoring the memory of our cherished friends, supporters, and donors who have passed away. Their generosity, kindness, and dedication have left a lasting impact on our Center and community. Although they are no longer with us, a part of their legacy lives on in the work we continue to do. We remember each them with gratitude and appreciation for the ways they enriched our lives, our organization, and our mission.

C. Fred Cornforth (1959-2024)

Fred Cornforth was a long-time friend, archaeophile, and generous supporter of CNEA. We are all in his debt for his eternal optimism and can-do spirit, his commitment to excellence, and his life-long legacy of love for and support of others for the greater good. Fred's generous support of CNEA bestowed on him the naming rights for the Center, which he chose to name after two of his long-time mentors, despite their [honored] opposition.

Peggy Duly (1943-2023)

Peggy Duly is deeply missed for her adventurous spirit, intellectual curiosity, and sincere enthusiasm for archaeological conversations. Peggy was a frequent attendee of our annual Archaeology Discovery Weekend events and could often be found during breaks or at banquets engaged in thoughtful discourse with scholars and non-specialists alike. CNEA is proud to offer the Peggy's library as a part of our larger academic research library.

Daniel Hantman (1942-2024)

After Dan Hantman joined the 2004 excavations at Tall al-`Umayri, his interest in archaeology piqued and he and his wife Marcia became long-time supportive members on CNEA's Archaeology Advisory Council. Dan's lively spirit, abundant generosity, sincere friendship, and deep commitment to his community continue to be celebrated by all who knew him.

Denise Herr (1949-2023)

We celebrate Denise Herr, as a friend, colleague, and a woman of great variety who, in the words of her husband Larry, enjoyed "being a mom, a wife, a grandmother, while being fun, mischievous, scholarly, ...spiritual in an upbeat kind of way, tolerant of people with differences, a lover of elegant language ... a world traveler sensitive to other cultures."

Norma Kershaw (1924-2020)

Norma Kershaw was a long-time friend and supporter of CNEA, deeply passionate about archaeology. We miss her intrepid passion to preserve the past, her generosity of spirit, and enjoying her regular attendance at our annual Archaeology Discovery Weekend events. Her absence is felt throughout the archaeological community, having been a part of numerous organizations including AIA, CAARI, ARCE, ASOR, and more.

Audrey Shaffer (1929-2025)

Audrey Shaffer was, to everyone who knew her, a gracious, generous, energetic, and elegant soul who touched the lives of thousands of people throughout her life, including hundreds of archaeology professionals, students, and volunteers. Her years of archaeological service to and through CNEA in the lab and in the field shaped dozens of lives and has left a legacy of professionalism and collaboration emboldened by friendship and purpose that will forever be a part of all we do.
