Federal and State Grants
La Sierra University Code: 001215
A Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be completed to receive federal grants
Federal Pell Grant
Federal Pell Grants are awarded only to eligible undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor's or professional degree. Awards are based on the cost of attendance, SAI (Student Aid Index) as determined by the FAFSA, and enrollment status (full-time, etc.).
Number of Credits * | Enrollment Level | Percentage of Award |
6-8 | half-time | 50% |
9-11 | three-quarter-time | 75% |
12 or more | full-time | 100% |
* If you take less than 6 hours your Pell award will vary.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
A FSEOG is a grant from the federal government for eligible undergraduate, degree-seeking students with exceptional financial need. Priority is given to students who receive Federal Pell Grant and meet La Sierra University's priority deadline. A FSEOG does not have to be paid back. Students at each school are awarded based on the availability of funds at that particular school. There is no guarantee that every eligible student will be able to receive a FSEOG.
Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant
The TEACH grant program provides grants of up to $4,000 per year to eligible students who are completing or plan to complete course work needed to begin a career in teaching, who agree to teach for four years at an elementary school, secondary school, or educational service agency that serves students from low-income families and to meet other requirements. The terms and conditions of this teaching service obligation are explained in the TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve that you must sign before you receive a TEACH Grant. IMPORTANT: If you do not complete your service obligation, all TEACH Grant funds you received will be converted to a Direct Unsubsidized Loan. You must then repay this loan to the U.S. Department of Education, with interest charged from the date the TEACH Grant was disbursed (paid out).
California State Grants
At La Sierra University, Cal Grant A and B are available to California residents who meet the GPA, financial need and deadline requirements. Cal Grant applicants must apply using the FAFSA or the CA Dream Act Application by the March 2 deadline and meet all eligibility, financial, and minimum GPA requirements of either program.

Other State Grants
Not from California? Almost every state education agency has at least one grant or scholarship available to residents, and many have a long list of student aid programs. Eligibility is usually restricted to state residents attending a college in-state, but that's not always the case. To learn more about financial aid programs that may be available in your state, visit NASFAA or the U.S. Department of Education website.
Other Scholarship Opportunities:
La Sierra University Scholarships
The University offers a variety of scholarships and awards to its undergraduate students. Some scholarships are based on a student's financial need, and require that the student fill out a FAFSA. Others are awarded based on merit (academic performance) and service (leadership/service) characteristics. All students are expected to meet Satisfactory Academic Progress standards and enroll at least half-time in eligible programs.
Outside Scholarship Resources
Students are encouraged to look for scholarship resources from sources outside the University. There are many organizations that offer scholarships for college attendance.
