La Sierra Together: Ialiyah Hill

  #LaSierraTogether   Humans of La Sierra

It all happened too fast to even remember. All I can remember is hearing reports that there were about thirty cases in California. Of all the people in California, I didn’t find thirty cases to be a big deal. By the end of that very same week, numbers had jumped from double to triple digits.

I was just getting back home when I received an email stating that the entire quarter was moved online. My first thought was “Does this mean I’m unemployed?” I couldn’t see exactly how I could continue doing my RA duties from home. What about my friends? I didn’t get to say goodbye to those who are now done at La Sierra. Am I really going to be a full time online student from home with possibly no job? When will this be over so that I can continue on about my life how it was before?

In the following weeks, I got my schedule together from home, my job had been heavily altered but still a job nonetheless, and almost all of my friendships have relied heavily on Snapchat, Instagram, and FaceTime. I am definitely someone who struggles with being in one atmosphere for too long with no breaks, so this quarantine has been a very big struggle for me. I now work housekeeping along with fulfilling RA responsibilities in Angwin Hall, and I occasionally take trips home to check up on my parents. I thank God that I am able to work during times like these and continue to be a voice of clarity to those who need it.
