La Sierra Together: Kiani Belgrave

  #LaSierraTogether   Humans of La Sierra

These strange times are leaving a lot of people's questions unanswered. How long will this last? When will things be back to normal? When can I work again? The worldwide pandemic has left a multitude of individuals in financial dire straits. I am not exempt from this reality. COVID-19 has left me and lots of other La Sierra students out of their on-campus jobs that were used for tuition, rent, and other fiscal responsibilities in our everyday lives.

A week into the worldwide quarantine I knew that I had to find a job fast. I immediately started to search online for job listings near me to be able to earn some cash as well as getting back into a routine. A couple of weeks of waking up to do nothing was becoming monotonous, and I needed something to do. Of course, most of the listings I found were grocery stores and supermarkets. Initially skeptical, working in a place that congregates large groups of people and thinking of the CDC social distancing requirements, I applied to a few places nonetheless. I figured It’ll be nice to help people in these times in the service industry, not to mention… I needed the money.

The very next day I got a call back from Food 4 Less. They were ready for me to work the next day. I immediately hopped on the opportunity and was hired the next day. I’d say that it is a blessing to be able to work in these times as well as being able to be of assistance to people in need. Every day I notice that people are going through a lot of stress right now, and a small amount of care and compassion goes a long way.

I hope everyone is staying safe out there! To my La Sierra Family, stay safe, stay inside, and stay prayed up! With all my love and regards to everyone. Hope all is well.
