Tools for Success

Our campus resources are designed to ensure your student’s academic success. Each student at La Sierra University is equipped with the tools to help them throughout college. It all starts as soon as they meet their academic advisor during their personalized Golden Eagle Day.

Office of Academic & Career Services OACS

The Office of Academic & Career Services (OACS) is here to help your student with academic advising, to empower them to achieve their educational goals, and to provide them with support in various areas. But OACS is about more than advising—our career services help students with resumes, job searches, internships and more. This is where your student’s journey to becoming a confident, independent, and career-oriented learner begins! During our campus closure, OACS is offering a virtual front desk service to ensure that all students continue to receive all the help they need.

Collaborative Learning Center CLC

The Collaborative Learning Center (CLC) is part of OACS’ services to students. This free resource can be used by your student if they feel they need additional assistance in developing skills and strategies for certain classes. Assistance is offered in Anatomy and Physiology, Physics, Chemistry, and Math. Your student can choose to study in a group with others, or utilize a 1-on-1 session with a Learning Assistant.

Tutoring

“But what if my student needs help in a class that isn’t supported by the CLC?” Not to worry. There are various tutors and study groups on campus for many other classes. Finding the right one for your student is as easy as talking with their academic advisor or their course instructor.

Writing Center

The Writing Center helps all La Sierra students who require assistance with specific writing assignments, as well as any who seek to improve their overall writing skills. Appointments can be made with our Writing Coaches for individualized 25-minute conferences. To schedule a conference, visit www.lasierra.mywconline.com. During the campus closure, online appointments are still available.

Library

Did you know that your student will have thousands of books at their fingertips—and millions more available at the click of a mouse via the LINK+ loan service? The La Sierra University Library provides everything a hard-working student needs for both research and relaxation. They can find the latest issues of magazines and newspapers, research journals, computers, and comfortable areas to study including a garden atrium. Our reference librarians are always available to assist with research projects, and students can even access search engines like EBSCO (which houses over 375 full-text databases) from the comfort of their dorm room or home.

College Level Examination Program

Did you know that your student can earn college credit for subjects they already excel in? There are various CLEP exams available for students who would like to test out of classes like Spanish, history, and more. To see the types of exams available, please visit clep.collegeboard.org/exams. We also advise that students check with the registrar’s office to ensure that they will receive the appropriate credit for the CLEP exams of their choice.

Service Learning

Service learning is an opportunity for students to engage in meaningful service that enriches the classroom. As part of the university studies requirement to complete three service learning courses, students take part in community-based volunteer service that is incorporated with their academic instruction in specific classes. Your student’s classroom experience will be enhanced, while also letting them become cognizant of and responsive to the needs of their community.

Adventist Colleges Abroad

There's no better way to learn about the world than to travel it. Students have the option to explore different countries through ACA, a program that has it roots at La Sierra. Thanks to partnerships with various Adventist institutions across the world, we are able to safely and confidently send students to experience new cultures that might otherwise be unavailable to them. Your student can not only expand their horizons, but also earn a language minor or prepare for graduate study. To see which countries are available to your student, check out Studies Abroad
