What To Do At A Job Fair?

  • Connect - Introduce yourself to the organizations you are targeting.
  • Network - Deliver your elevator pitch. Let them know what you are doing and what you are looking for.
  • Stand Out - Ask questions informed by your research on the organization.  
  • Be Memorable - Leave an attractive resume. Bring enough for each organization you want to target.

Why Attend A Job Fair?

  • Meet  and network with employers: HR recruiters and Hiring Managers.
  • Target organizations that you are interested in and can help you grow your resume.
  • Find internships that run during the summer and get some experience.
  • Find full-time positions and land your job post graduation.

Elevator Pitch

In 15 seconds or less clearly, confidently and concisely catch the eye of an HR recruiter. 

  1. Introduce yourself - "Hi my name is . . ."
  2. Tell them what you do - "I am a liberal arts major and I am in my junior year."
  3. Tell them what you are looking for - "I am looking for a part time (or internship) position with your company."
  4. Ask them a question - "I noticed online the job description, and wanted to know what you are looking for in an ideal candidate?"

Resume Tips

A resume tells what you have accomplished and indicates what you are capable of doing.

  1. Organize with clear headings.
  2. Make sure your most relevant information is at the top.
  3. Qualify and quantify tasks.
  4. Don't use personal pronouns.
  5. Include important keywords and skills you have.
  6. You can use volunteer experience on your resume.
  7. Make sure there are no grammatical errors.
  8. Keep it to one page.
  9. Review! Review! Review!
