Information for 9th-12th Educators and Parents/Guardians
La Sierra LEAF is a community built as a partnership between La Sierra University and 9th-12th schools, especially those in the Inland Empire region of Southern California. La Sierra has proudly been in Riverside, CA, for one hundred years.
We aim to provide a safe and fun space in which high school students can discover and develop their interests in STEM/STEAM disciplines. Here, an engaged student will build skills in communication, leadership, and collaboration, all while also gaining domain knowledge such as skills in the biology wet-lab, drawing, film editing, python coding, and more.
The central hub of this community is a Discord server. Discord started in the gaming world, and we expect our students will make friends here that they will game with. This is a great way to form connections, but we’ll also be nudging them toward other projects based on their individual interests.
We hope that some of these LEAF projects may fulfill academic requirements for end-of-term work at school, though this will need to be arranged on a case-by-case basis and is, of course, at the discretion of the teacher.
Please contact us at leaf@lasierra.edu if you’d like us to visit your school by presenting LEAF in classes or labs, setting up a table during lunch time, or meeting with students during after-school hours.
