The U.S. offers many places to seek medical attention when you are sick or injured. The most common include:

Doctor’s Office- This is where you would typically go for a cold, flu, stomach problem. You generally are required to call in advance and make an appointment. If you do not need immediate medical attention this is a good choice.

Walk In Clinic/Urgent Care Center- (Our Student Wellness Services could be considered a doctor’s office and/or walk in clinic depending on the medical services you need). This type of medical facility is staffed with doctors and nurses and does not require an appointment. This is a good place to go when you need immediate treatment, labs, or tests done right away. This is a good option if you are not feeling well or have an injury and you need immediate attention.

Hospital/ Emergency Room- If you have a severe accident or illness and you need immediate medical attention, please go to the nearest emergency room or hospital, and/or call 911 emergency services.

Most medical offices or personnel will tell you what you need to bring prior to your appointment or health care worker’s arrival. However, we encourage you to always have a government issued ID (California license, passport, or government issued ID), current medical insurance card, cash or credit for payment, and address of the nearest pharmacy to you in case a prescription is required.

When making an appointment, be sure to tell the provider that your plan is with the UnitedHealthcare Network. The International Student Insurance (ISI) or International Medical Group (IMG) is not a network. It’s important to let them know that your plan is with the UnitedHealthcare Network and the logo will be on your insurance ID card if you forget.

U.S. healthcare plans often have a deductible required upon service. IMG plan’s deductible is $25 per injury/illness to go to a doctor, walk-in clinic, or urgent care and $250 for an emergency room visit for treatment of an illness that does not result in direct hospital admission.

IMG calls this coinsurance. IMG will pay 100% of illnesses or injuries in-network after you pay the deductible and 80% of illnesses and injuries out-of-network.

In-network: medical treatment received in hospitals, walk-in clinics, urgent care, hospitals, and emergency rooms for which IMG has agreements within the UnitedHealthcare Network. PPO Network. Click Doctor/Hospital Search and UnitedHealthcare.

Out-of-network: All other medical treatment facilities for which UnitedHealthcare Network (i.e. IMG) does not have an agreement. Example: Kaiser Permanent.

The Wellness Center provides a variety of services. No routine/preventive vision/dental care is covered. If you would like to obtain vision/dental coverage for yourself, we encourage you to research plans that fit your needs and are within your budget. Counseling Services' No-Show Policy

Due to our waitlist and high demand for services, our no-show/late-cancellation policy is as follows: If you would like to cancel or reschedule your counseling appointment for any reason, you need to let Student Wellness Services know at least 24 hours before your appointment.   If we do not hear from you, we interpret that to mean you are choosing to disengage from counseling at this time. As such, you will be removed from the therapist's caseload. If/when you are ready to re-engage in therapy, please give us a call and we will once again place you on our waitlist.
