Philosophical Studies Outcomes & Career Options

A bachelor’s degree in Philosophical Studies prepares students for a variety of occupations that value such skills as critical thinking, reasoning, and written and oral communication. Students who complete this degree are prepared to pursue entry-level careers in government, politics, church, and community work. It is also an excellent foundation for graduate-level studies in areas such as health, law, business, education, and seminary.

Educational Qualifications

In addition to a bachelor’s degree, jobs in politics and government may be helped by internships. Arbitrators, mediators, and concilitators usually require a bacehlor’s degree, although an advanced degree in business or law or additional training in conflict resolution mau be desired. To become a lawyer. students must complete law school. Additional training and study may also be required for higher-level careers in health, education, and church work.

Job Outlook

Employment of postsecondary teachers is projected to grow 13 percent from 2014 to 2024, faster than the average for all occupations. Employment of arbitrators, mediators, and conciliators is projected to grow 9 percent from 2014 to 2024, faster than the average for all occupations. 

Entering Salary

The median annual wage for arbitrators, mediators, and conciliators was $58,020 in May 2015. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $32,440, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $118,090.
