Faculty Checklist for Service-Learning Designated Courses
[Please make sure each of the following is checked off before students start their service-learning experience at their community partner sites.]
- Discuss desired community partner sites from the Service-Learning Office based on the course objectives.
- Contact each of your community partner site representative before your students start their Service-Learning. Discuss with the community site representative the objectives of your course and negotiate the expectations of the Service-Learning experience of your students at their site.
- Share with your students the orientation video shared by Service-Learning Office during the first week of instruction.
- Have students register online for their Service-Learning course.
- If your students register for Service-Learning online, please verity that they have done so by the first week of class.
- Let the Service-Learning office know immediately of students who register late for your course and immediately require students watch the orientation video shared by Service-Learning Office. The student should be assigned to a community partner site as soon as possible.
- Have clear “reflection prompts” for your students each time they go to their Service-Learning site.
- Let the Service-Learning Office (X2185, Gladwin Hall Rm 205, 206) know of any concerns you may have immediately.
- Provide a final roster of students to the Service-Learning Office “week 2” of the quarter.
- Follow up with the students “week 4” to ensure students have been placed, begun their Service-Learning, and that things are running smoothly.
- Share with your Community Partner the Partner Feedback Form via email or telephone at the end of each quarter.
