Our unique program qualifies you to receive an Ed.S ( Education Specialist) degree half way through your doctorate program with 45 post Masters units.

You can choose between concentrations: including

as well as earning your Administrative Credentials for the state of California, from the Administrative Leadership department.

Your last 42 Units involves additional research courses, and an added concentration as well as electives from any of the departments in the School of Education, plus 12 units of Capstone Project or Dissertation.

EdD in Curriculum & Instruction

This focus on instructional leadership includes a variety of concentrations, preparing the doctoral student to work in multiple settings of their choice.

Learn about our thorough Core Curriculum

The core classes establish an understanding of Instructional leadership and a focus on theory, research, and applications. All students are expected to take these courses, which draw each student into thinking and researching in the area of Instructional Leadership.

The core provides students with the opportunity to learn, reflect, integrate, and apply their learning to real life problems, such as found in Education.Capstone / Dissertation topic: Students in the Doctor of Education program are required to complete either a traditional dissertation or a capstone thesis as the culmination of their professional educational experience.

The capstone for the Ed.D. program begins with a research based experience in which students address an education problem through an action research project, program development project or product outcome project. Students pursuing the capstone are guided in identifying and selecting a real-world problem in an educational setting and proposing an intervention, based on a thorough review of the literature, to solve the selected the issue.

The doctoral capstone offers students the ability to connect research to practice and results in a formal thesis and presentation summarizing the project

EDUCATIONAL ADMINISTRATION

This specialization seeks to provide students with practical information about educational administration while framing these techniques and processes in current leadership and administrative theory. Explore aspects of school and community, contemporary issues within education, and administration in higher education.

EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY

This specialization prepares students to conduct research in the areas of psychological processes, emotional psychology, and human development within the context of educational leadership settings. Become a specialist in learning development, measurement, evaluation, statistics, and assessment.

  • Master’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale

Doctor of Education in Curriculum & Instruction - Curriculum

The Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction requires 87 Quarter Units post Masters. You may transfer up to 18 units of graduate level post Masters-coursework.

Qualifying Examination

Before completing the program and advancement to Ed.D. a qualifying examination must be passed.

Capstone/Dissertation

In order to meet the degree requirements a Capstone or Dissertation (12 UNITS) can be chosen. Register for at least one unit of dissertation credit per quarter when choosing the dissertation.

All degree requirements need to be completed within 7 years
