STEM Bridge

The STEM Bridge applications are closed for 2023 and will reopen in the Spring of 2024.

Made possible by the Guided Pathways to Success Title V grant, STEM Bridge is a holistic, no-cost, two-week summer intensive for incoming first-year and transfer students interested in STEM majors. The program aims to develop belonging and access in students before their first year at La Sierra University. Students participate in a scientific poster presentation project, engage in hands-on research in the lab, and gain early access to STEM faculty & VIP staff across the University. Students also engage in career and soft-skills workshops to develop real-world skills crucial to careers in STEM. Daily meals are provided, and housing is optional.

STEM Bridge is a collaborative learning intensive that takes place in and around the La Sierra University campus for a diverse multi-disciplinary summer research experience.

The two-week session allows students hands-on opportunities to learn about all aspects of STEM on a college campus. Visual teaching demonstrations include but are not limited to biology modules with worms, technological and biological maintenance of plants, business management, an introduction to the University's new sustainability studies program, as well as peer-led learning sessions to improve mathematic capabilities before college courses begin.

Invited students gain knowledge about career opportunities within STEM through professionals in the field, engage with La Sierra professors and student mentors, and connect with other STEM-focused first-year students.

STEM Bridge aims to increase the number of students who declare STEM majors and graduate with a STEM degree.

STEM Bridge applications will open in April 2024.
