Classes for College Credit 8am-12pm

Hands-On Tech Exploration is a dynamic lesson designed for junior and senior students eager to delve into the technical aspects of filmmaking. This lesson provides a practical and interactive exploration of the essential filmmaking equipment and technologies, allowing students to familiarize themselves with cameras, lighting, sound, and editing tools.

Hands-on laboratory work in the principles and techniques of basic chemistry measurements, significant fi gures, and calculations based on measurements. Practice in drawing Lewis structures and use of valence bond and molecular orbital theory. Skills emphasized include creation of a simple lab report, understanding of basic chemistry glassware, and proper use of significant figures.

Modern cities are vibrant, living systems where plants, animals and humans live side-by-side. Explore the interplay between natural processes and human systems through outdoor research, labs and scientific analysis. Upon completion of this course students will have foundational skills in field research, including data collection, water and soil testing, and microscope use.

Nematode worms are everywhere! They live in soil, mulch, around plants, and they hitch rides on millipedes, slugs, snails, and other soil community organisms. In this course we'll learn all about nematodes as we isolate them from our campus environment, learn microbial techniques in the laboratory, and even sequence their DNA to identify each species. Welcome!

Classes for Enrichment 1-4pm

An exciting and engaging class designed for students who are eager to explore the rich tapestry of cinema. This lesson goes beyond merely watching films; it encourages students to develop a critical and analytical eye, fostering open and honest discussions about the art of filmmaking. Through a curated selection of iconic films spanning different genres and eras, students will gain insights into film history, learn to critique movies like professionals, and appreciate diverse perspectives.

Upon successful completion of all course requirements, the student will have the opportunity to obtain certification in CPR/AED and First Aid. Attendance at all course meetings required.

Week 1

Visual Alchemy: Mastering Design Elements
This is an engaging art course designed to explore the fundamental elements of design. Develop a solid understanding of the essential elements of design. Engage in a series of projects that provide practical applications of design elements across various art mediums. Explore your individuality as art becomes a language, and your creativity finds its voice through the powerful elements of design!

Week 2

Visual Harmony: A Journey Into Design Principles
This course is an immersive journey into the world of visual composition, offering a hands-on experience that will empower you creatively. Engage in a series of hands-on exercises and projects that allow you to apply design principles in various art mediums. Develop problem-solving skills through design challenges that encourage you to think critically and creatively. Gain a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles that guide visual composition in art and design.

Week 1

Herpetology and Biodiversity of Southern California

Have you ever been intrigued by one of our wild animal neighbors? Lizrds, snakes, insects, and birds may seem common place to some and even frightening to others but each is part of its own intricate ecosystem with a story behind its fight for joy of sitting in our yards or slithering through our gardens. In this class a basic introduction will be given on the biodiversity of the wild and natural corners of southern california. A special focus will be given to the science of Herpetology with attention given to some of our most charismatic neighbors, lizards, snakes, frogs, and salamanders. Class will be held in La Sierra University Herpetology Lab where slide shows and demonstrations with live animals will take place as well as many opportunities to get outside and search for these creatures in the wild.

Week 2

Climate and Natural History of California

Climate and Natural History of California Here in Southern California we have come to view long waits in traffic and smoggy summer days as defining features of our state. But in actuality California offers not just one of the most dynamic natural regions in America but also the world. From snow capped mountains, dense forests, parched deserts, and roaring coastlines our state is filled with surprises. Here in Riverside county if we take even a couple minutes to look past the concrete and car horns we will see a dramatic natural world unfurl. Continuing of the first weeks topics of animal and plant diversity we will also begin to discus how climate, weather, and our states location has affected the habitats around us.

Learn how to make a self-autonomous, object-avoidance robot with lights and sound. At the end of the course keep the robot you make!
